Science Inquiry - Native Trees

When Miss Erine was at school with us as our student-teacher we focused on learning about native trees that were growing around our school.  We worked collaboratively in teams and had to create an informative poster about key aspects of each of the native trees we were allocated.

It was great being able to go out on a field trip around the school to investigate our questions and record our findings.

When we got back to class we had to work together to put our project together. Later we presented our information to the rest of the class.

Miss Erine and Mrs Dobbie were super impressed with our hard work. To be honest, so were we!

Miss Erine explained the different leaves on the kauri tree.

We took photos of all the trees, measured their trunks with a piece of string (we were learning about measurement in maths at the time!), did a leaf and bark rubbing and observed what the leaves looked like.

After we have collected all our data it was time to record it on paper and work on our presentations. Note how we had a different coloured card to match our fale trees. Red for Rata, green for Totara, blue for Kauri and yellow for Kowhai.
