Visualisation

Now that is a BIG word. But what does it mean? We learnt that it means making a picture in our minds from hearing or reading words which describe something.

Now we are getting older and reading or listening to chapter books, we are finding that there are less and less pictures in the book to look at. This is why it is so important to know how to visualise.

We did a special activity where we had to listen really hard to a description Mrs Dobbie read out to us. She read one line at a time and we had to visualise what she was saying and draw it.

Here is what she read:

"What is a nogard?

The nogard is an animal. It has an oval-shaped body. It has a long neck and tail. The top of the neck, back and tail are covered with a row of triangular-shaped plates. The nogard’s head is shaped like a long triangle. It has big eyes and eyebrows that stick out. It also has big nostrils. Its body is covered with scales. The nogard has four short legs. At the end of each leg is a foot with five toes. Each toe has a sharp claw at the end. The nogard has two wings attached to its body. These are located behind the front legs towards the top of its back. Every nogard looks different and can be any colour of the rainbow."

Here is what we drew.

Not bad hey? What do you think they all look like? Hint: spell "nogard" backwards!
