Lockdown Maths

We had some tricky maths problems to solve in our distance learning. We had to get the answer and justify how we got it. Look at some of the ways we worked out the problems.

"We have been in lockdown for 2 days now. Can you tell me , how many meals you have had at home  (assuming you have breakfast, lunch and dinner each day).
What about after 5 days? What about after 7 days?

Sofia worked it out using pistachios!

Count how many people there are in your family. How many fingers are there in your whole family?

Williami put chairs around 2 tables. Each chair had 4 legs. Around one table there were 8 chair legs. Around the other table there were 12 chair kegs.

How many chairs were around each table?

Charlie's working out.

Sofia's maths.

Stella's drawing.

Mum cut up some apples for morning tea. She cut them in half. How many apples did she have to start with if she ended up with 18 pieces of apple?

Dad bought pizzas for dinner. He cut them into quarters. There were 12 pieces. How many pizzas did he buy?

Stella showed me in a diagram how she worked it out.

  3. There is some amazing maths going on in Room 6. I loved how you all used a different way to solve your problem and that you were able to explain your thinking! I learnt so many different ways to solve one problem. Great job Room 6!
