SOUND EXPERIMENTS
One afternoon when we had Mr Rush as our student teacher we did a whole lot of sound experiments.
We had to listen to hear all the sounds we were making.
There were experiments:
1. Listening to a rubber band being plucked when stretched over a tin. It sounded like a guitar. The sound was amplified or made louder by the sound waves being trapped in the tin.
2. hitting a metal coat hanger against a desk and hearing the sound because the sound waves moved along the string into our ears.
3. Hitting metal spoons in a bucket of water and hearing a duller noise as the sound waves found it more difficult to travel through water.
4. Speaking into a polystyrene cup to our partner who held his or her cup to her ear. Our voice traveled along the string and into our ears!
It was a fun but noisy afternoon!
